    The Chesapeake Bay Retriever was developed along the Chesapeake Bay and named the state dog of Maryland. This breed is an American sporting breed and a top water retriever. In 1807, an English brig shipwrecked off the coast of Maryland, and two Newfoundlands were rescued from the cargo.
